Most Christians, thanks largely to biased Bible translators, are prejudiced against Old Testament law keeping. If you don't believe most translators are unjustly biased against the Mosaic laws, click GLARING EXAMPLES OF TRANSLATORS' BIAS AGAINST OT LAWS to read with your own eyes what they have been able to get away with. The majority of Christians steadfastly refuse to carefully analyze with an open mind, using context and/or Greek and Hebrew word definitions, the controversial verses that mainstreamers try to use to support their belief many OT laws have been abolished. They think that surely their well educated, credentialed ministers must be right, so they trust them, unwilling to question even a few such verses. Just skimming quickly over this page, though, will show that there is more than reasonable doubt that their law keeping beliefs are correct.

A well known television personality associated with the 700 Club recently answered an email asking why people don't obey God's law to avoid eating pork. He explained that the Old Testament food laws have been done away with using Acts 10:10-17 and Mark 7:18-19 as "proof" that they have been abolished. If you believe his answer, are you really sure you can use those and other verses to defend yourself when challenged by a growing number of conservatives like me? Click FORBIDDEN FOOD and read the lower half of that page to see well researched interpretations of those and other Scriptures based on reasonable logic and not intense peer pressure, which are not popular but are Biblically accurate.

ISAIAH 66:17: "Some of you ...... eat the meat of pigs ...... But I, the Lord, WILL DESTROY YOU FOR THIS." --- Contemporary English Version     The context of this verse shows that this is a promise for people living after the coming Christian millennium (Revelation 20:1-7) when lions, tigers, jaguars, and other big cats (Isaiah 65:25) will be eating only grass and when other deliberate sins finally will not be tolerated any more, including the sins of breaking the Saturday Sabbath and skipping the Feast of Tabernacles, according to some very specific, prophetic verses, Isaiah 66:23, Zechariah 14:16-19.

Did you know that Romans 2:10-13 below proves that God will use the same standard, which is the LAW (certain OT laws plus magnified OT laws in the NT), to judge both the Jews AND THE GENTILES?

ROMANS 2:10-13: "But God will give glory, honor ...... to the Jews FIRST and also to the Gentiles. 11 For God JUDGES EVERYONE BY THE SAME STANDARD. 12 The Gentiles ...... sin and are lost apart from the Law. THE JEWS have the Law; they sin and ARE JUDGED BY THE LAW. 13 ...... people are put right with God ...... by DOING WHAT THE LAW COMMANDS." --- Good News Translation    If Paul had been inspired to first say that the Law possessing Jews are judged by the Law, then telling us that God will also judge everyone else (which would include the Gentiles) by the same standard (the Law) that the Jews will be judged by, this revelation would probably be slightly clearer to some people.

ACTS 5:1-11: Condoned even by the Apostle Peter himself, the church going Christians Ananias and Sapphira were MERCILESSLY EXECUTED WITHIN SECONDS after only lying.

Those harsh verses in Acts and Isaiah above can make it more believable that the Matthew verses below really will be carried out some day.

What kind of lawlessness, according to the Bible and not your minister, was Jesus talking about in the above Matthew 13:41,42?

Since the original Greek for lawlessness is anomia, a relatively rare, special word used in only 13 verses in the Bible, defined primarily as an abandonment of Mosaic law keeping, Jesus was not only referring to major offenses such as murder, kidnapping, and theft, but also to the kind of lawlessness that can and does sicken and kill people in other ways, too (by failing to observe the protective dietary laws and by failing to pay the triennial food tithe to benefit those about to starve to death, for example). Jesus was also referring to the kind of lawlessness that greatly insults God (by ignoring His permanent memorialization of Saturday as the day of rest and by ignoring His worshipful, mostly prophetic festivals).

The furnace of fire in verse 42 above is the same massive, worldwide inferno, almost inevitably nuclear in nature, that will some day also reshape the outer surface of the earth and even evaporate the oceans, water left over from Noah's Flood, according to Hebrews 10:27, 2 Peter 3:7,10,12, Isaiah 66:22, Malachi 4:1, and Revelation 21:1. Matthew 7:21-23 warns that many Christians, who thought they had led righteous lives, will be among the condemned lawbreakers.

Paul, a Benjamite, was not a Jew, but he diligently observed the Mosaic holy days and Saturday Sabbath according to Acts 18:21, 20:6, 27:9, 1 Corinthians 5:8 and other verses. Since he instructed Christians to copycat his religious behavior, he therefore told his followers to also keep the holy days and Sabbath according to

ACTS 25:8: "..... 'I have committed no offense against the Jewish law ....." --- New English Translation

ACTS 28:17: "..... I assure you that I did absolutely nothing against Jewish laws ....." --- The Message

ACTS 24:14: "..... I worship the God of my Fathers, BELIEVING ALL THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE LAW and in the Prophets." --- NKJV

Paul's teachings were identically the same as those of Jesus, Whose doctrines in turn were the same as those of God the Father (John 7:16, 2 John 1:9). If you will read through mainstreamers' shallow arguments, you should, with research provided by this and similar sites, realize that those Christians need to be observing more Old Testament laws.

EPHESIANS 2:19,20: "...... you are ...... fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles AND PROPHETS ......" --- NKJV     The first definition of the NT word "prophets" refers to the Old Testament prophets.

Since the previously unwritten Saturday Sabbath, forbidden food, and tithing laws, just to name a few, predate the "law" formally established at Mount Sinai, there is no clear Scriptural evidence to prove that anomia does not include certain Old Testament laws such as the health preserving dietary, life saving tithing, memorialized Saturday Sabbath, and other laws that Jesus strongly supported. Genesis 14:18-20, 28:22, Exodus 16:23-30, and Genesis 7:2,8, 8:20 show that tithing, Saturday rest, and dietary restrictions were in full force before the "law" was later codified. The New Testament reminds us 13 times to observe the 10 Commandments, which automatically includes the Sabbath, the 4th Commandment.

(To view this site 125% magnification may be best.)
Anomia includes, believe it or not, take it or leave it, failure to obey certain still binding laws in the Old Testament. Even someone you want to become "yoked with" should obey those particular laws according to 2 Corinthians 6:14 where anomia also appears. 1 John 3:4, the "gold standard" verse for defining sin, contains anomia, too. Matthew 7:23 solemnly warns against this same kind of lawlessness, anomia. 1) Yes, some verses put law keeping in its proper perspective, explaining that it is really grace that saves us, not law keeping. 2) Yes, some verses are broad generalizations saying essentially say that love fulfills the law. 3) Yes, some people claim that the Mosaic laws are for the Jews only. They ignore a) Micah 4:2 which reveals that ultimately the law, which includes many but not all the Mosaic laws, will be preached worldwide from Jerusalem and b) Romans 2:10-13 saying that the Lord will judge everyone by the same standard, which is the remaining valid part of the Mosaic law plus its magnified New Testament laws. 4) Yes, there are concise, abbreviated verses which are also conditional and qualified saying that we are no longer "under the law" referring to the complete, entire, original, whole law (Galatians 5:3, James 2:10) previously requiring a) circumcision, b) sacrifices (the laws that were "added then abolished" [Galatians 3:19, Hebrews 9:10]) c) the Levitical priesthood, and d) the mandatory death penalty for some sins (Romans 8:2). The apostles "went out of their way" to clearly and specifically itemize those 4 laws as now abolished. Law observing Christians have now truly been released from those particular, burdensome laws, but not from certain other Mosaic laws, which are and always will be beneficial and protective. 5) And yes, some claim that since Christians have been "born again," they can no longer lose their salvation through sin. No human, except Jesus, has ever been "born again," though, because this involves being born into a literally immortal, non-physical, non-flesh, spirit body that could not possibly consist of flesh and blood according to John 3:3-8,13. When was the last time you saw a "born again" Christian become invisible at will, like the wind, as Jesus clearly described such Christians? "Born again" Christians also ignore 1 Corinthians 9:27 which reveals that Paul himself admits that he could lose his salvation if he does not continue to reasonably discipline himself to avoid sin. But what are you going to do with Matthew 5:20, 7:23, 13:41,42, 24:12, Romans 2:13, 3:31, 6:1,2,15 and over 95 other pro-law keeping New Testament verses, "REGARD THEM AS OUTRIGHT, DELIBERATE LIES FROM GOD ALMIGHTY HIMSELF, WHO DOES NOT LIE"? NO, OF COURSE NOT!
Christians are commanded 13 times in the New Testament to
1) obey the commandments, Matthew 19:17 and Revelation 12:17 for example (the Ten Commandments, which include the Mosaic Saturday Sabbath, are part of the law because they are contained within the Old Testament laws), plus obey
2) Jesus' New Testament command (Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42), even though indirect, to tithe (since Jesus is Who He is, indirect, clearly implied commands from Him are certainly just as important and just as binding as direct commands), clearly another part of the law, plus follow
3)  Paul's command, which was not merely a suggestion, to continue observing the Feast of Unleavened Bread, another Mosaic law, according to 1 Corinthians 5:8, plus observe
4) Paul's strict command to not even touch, much less eat by obvious implication, what is "unclean," which by definition of the Greek word akathartos, Strong's 169, translated "unclean," definitely would include the forbidden foods, according to 2 Corinthians 6:17.
5) Additional corroboration that part of the law that Christians still need to obey are verses in Isaiah and Zechariah prophesying that, for example, the festival, food, and Saturday Sabbath laws will finally be enforced after the Christian millennium (Isaiah 56:6,7, 66:17,22,23, Zechariah 14:16-19).
Just the preceding 5 items alone are "triple iron clad, titanium reinforced concrete" proof that Christians are still quite obviously under or subject to part of the OT law which also proves that verses similar to "not under the law" are highly qualified and could not possibly apply to all the Mosaic laws.
Merely not explicitly itemizing in the New Testament all still applicable OT laws is not sufficient, conclusive proof, beyond reasonable doubt, that those laws have been done away with. When the NT was being written, the Apostles knew that Christians were able to read and learn about those laws in the OT and to record all of them again in the NT epistles probably would have been considered unnecessarily redundant.
By default some Christians commit the crime of causing some needy people to starve to death, by not obeying the Mosaic third year food tithe law. Those unnecessary deaths do not go unnoticed by the Lord. At least an estimated 400 million people could have been saved from starvation during the last 1,600 years if everyone around the world had paid that special, very life saving tithe. Probably another 15 to 40 million or more could have been saved from hideous, parasitic infections/diseases or even death merely by obeying the simple dietary laws. Anomia, the very deadly sin warned about in Matthew 7:23: "Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness" (anomia), and Matthew 13:41,42, is precisely defined as follows:
ANOMIA, the feminine noun, Strong's number 458, is defined by THAYER'S GREEK-ENGLISH LEXICON of the NEW TESTAMENT, March, 2005 seventh printing, acclaimed by many as the world's best such lexicon, on page 48: "1. prop. the condition of one without law, --- either because ignorant of it or because violating it. 2. contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness ........" ANOMIA IS DIRECTLY DERIVED FROM ANOMOS, Strong's number 459, which is also the ADJECTIVE form of anomia, AND IT REFERS PRIMARILY to the Old Testament, Mosaic laws. YES, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, ANOMIA REALLY DOES REFER MOSTLY TO THE OLD TESTAMENT LAWS! ANOMOS on page 48 IS DEFINED AS "1. DESTITUTE OF (THE MOSAIC) LAW ........" ANOMOS itself is derived directly from the Greek word NOMOS, Strong's number 3551, translated into the English "law," and NOMOS appears in the New Testament almost 200 times, defined ALMOST WITHOUT EXCEPTION AS THE MOSAIC LAW. NOMOS on page 427 IS DEFINED AS "........ a command, law; and 1. of any law whatsoever ........ 2. OF THE MOSAIC LAW ......." THE ADVERB form of anomia is ANOMOS, Strong's number 460, spelled like the adjective but pronounced differently, and it again REFERS PRIMARILY to the Mosaic laws! ANOMOS on page 48 IS ALSO DEFINED AS "without the law ........, without a knowledge of the law ........ TO SIN IN IGNORANCE OF THE MOSAIC LAW ........" THE HEBREW-GREEK KEY WORD STUDY BIBLE King James Version, 1991 revised edition, on page 1740 in the "Lexical Aids to the New Testament," as well as other study aids, defines NOMOS basically as THE LAW GIVEN MOST FREQUENTLY BY MOSES. The definition of anomia also contains the idea of contemptuously violating specific, established Old Testament laws.
ANOMIE is an actual English word derived directly from the Greek word anomia. Dictionaries basically define anomie, which gives us a better understanding of the meaning of anomia, as a COLLAPSE OF THE SOCIAL STRUCTURES REGULATING OR GOVERNING A SOCIETY OR SOCIAL INSTABILITY THAT RESULTED FROM A BREAKDOWN OF STANDARDS AND VALUES.
Mainstream Christianity has obviously experienced a collapse of Mosaic law observance for the last 1,600 years.
ACTS 5:32: "...... The Holy Spirit, which God gave to those who OBEY Him ......" --- New Simplified Bible
ACTS 2:38: "REPENT, and ...... be baptized ...... FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS; and you shall receive ...... the Holy Spirit." --- NKJV    Acts 3:19 also commands us to repent of our sins (primarily Old Testament sins according to 1 John 3:4), but I ask you with all sincerity, WHY IN THE WORLD ARE WE REQUIRED TO REPENT OF THOSE SINS, IF THOSE LAWS REALLY HAVE BEEN ABOLISHED AND ARE THEREFORE NONEXISTENT? VERY OBVIOUS CONCLUSION: THE OBEDIENCE PART OF THOSE PROTECTIVE, EVEN HEALTH PRESERVING LAWS (REFERRING TO THE DIETARY LAWS, FOR EXAMPLE) NEVER WAS ABOLISHED.
GALATIANS 5:18: "BUT IF YOU ARE LED BY THE SPIRIT, YOU ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW." --- NKJV     YOU MUST OBEY THE LAW, THOUGH, JUST TO ACQUIRE THE GUIDING HOLY SPIRIT IN THE FIRST PLACE ACCORDING TO ACTS 2:38 AND ACTS 5:32 ABOVE. LAWS CONSIST OF OBEDIENCE AND PENALTIES FOR DISOBEDIENCE, AND SINCE OBEDIENCE IS REQUIRED, THE PART OF THE LAW LEFT TO NOT BE UNDER IS THE PENALTY WHICH IS THE PART CHRISTIANS ARE NO LONGER UNDER, MORE CLEARLY EXPLAINED BY ROMANS 8:2, PLUS THE APOSTLE ITEMIZED CIRCUMCISION, LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD, AND SACRIFICE LAWS. ACTS 2:38 COMMANDS US TO REPENT, WHICH MEANS PRECISELY TO STOP SINNING. SINNING IS CLEARLY DEFINED BY 1 JOHN 3:4 AS BREAKING THE LAW (TORAH). THE ONLY WAY TO STOP BREAKING THE LAW IS TO OBEY THE LAW. Therefore Galatians 5:18's "not under the law," and similar verses like "freed from the law" CANNOT possibly be referring to the obedience part of the law, but rather ONLY to the penalty part of the law, excluding the circumcision, Levitical priesthood, and sacrifice laws which the apostles explained as now abolished. Christians led by the Holy Spirit are no longer under that part of the Mosaic law demanding the automatic death penalty for sins, especially prebaptismal sins. Turned around, Galatians 5:18 above reveals that ALL non-Christians ARE under the law, showing that much of the law is still in force. Romans 3:19: "...... whatever the law says, it says to those who ARE under the law," again revealing the law never was really annulled. Verse 23: "...... for ALL have sinned ......" indicates that the law applies to everybody, not just to the Jews. Christians cannot get away with breaking the law if everyone else (all non-Christians) must obey it! Paul and other authors of "not under the law" verses do not go to the trouble of "spelling out," in those particular verses, which part of the Mosaic law Christians are now not under. Romans 8:2: "...... Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death." (Free from death, the penalty part of the law.)
GALATIANS 3:19: "What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made ....." --- NKJV     The word "transgressions" in this verse automatically proves that some set of divine laws was violated, laws that must have been pre-existing. The particular "law" that was added, then removed after the Seed (Jesus Christ) came, was therefore not the entire set of God's laws since there were pre-existing laws, which were not the ones that were added, and therefore the pre-existing laws that included the Ten Commandments (click ALL 10 COMMANDMENTS IN FORCE BEFORE THE MOSAIC LAW CODIFIED) could not possibly have been the laws abolished since only the added laws were annulled. The book of Hebrews gives the clue about which laws were added then removed. Hebrews 9:9,10,12,13 and 10:1 discuss the offerings and sacrifice laws with their rituals, which specifically pinpoints the offerings and sacrifice laws as the laws that were added then removed, because verse 10: "..... imposed until the time of reformation" reveals that those laws would be removed and when they would be removed which was also explained in the above Galatians 3:19: "..... till the Seed should come." Since the Mosaic dietary, festival, tithing, Sabbath, and many other civil and moral laws such as the prohibition against removing property landmarks, bestiality, bribery, gossip, etc. are not laws involving offerings and sacrifices, they logically could not have been the laws that were added then nullified after the death of Jesus. So those laws, part of the pre-existing laws that were formally codified at the same time that the offerings and sacrifice laws were added, must still be in force. ROMANS 2:10-13: "But God will give glory, honor, and peace to all who do what is good, to the Jews first and also to the Gentiles. 11 For God JUDGES EVERYONE BY THE SAME STANDARD. 12 The Gentiles do not have the law of Moses; they sin and are lost apart from the Law. The Jews have the Law; they sin and are judged by the Law. 13 For it is not by hearing the Law that people are put right with God, but by DOING WHAT THE LAW COMMANDS. --- Good News Translation   The very statement in verse 12 that the Gentiles do actually sin reveals that, by definition of the word sin (1 John 3:4), they are required, to be sinless, to obey the law, which includes many Mosaic laws by, again, Biblical definition of sin. Paul in verse 11 explains that ultimately all people around the world will be judged by the same law of God, the remaining valid parts of the MOSAIC LAW plus its magnified New Testament laws (Isaiah 42:21) prohibiting looking lustfully at women, becoming unnecessarily angry at others, and so on.
ROMANS 3:24,25: "...... GRACE, through ...... Jesus: 25 ...... in His pity, God let the SINS of EARLIER TIMES GO UNPUNISHED." --- Bible in Basic English  So grace IS NOT a pardon or license to commit NEW, FUTURE sins after initial repentance and baptism.

2 PETER 3:17: "Dear friends ...... So be on your guard. Then you won't be led down the wrong path by the mistakes of PEOPLE WHO DON'T OBEY THE LAW. You won't fall from your safe position." --- New International Reader's Version   The words "law," "lawless," "unlawful," or "without law" also appear in 2 Peter 3:17 in at least 29 other translations of the Bible. "...... watch lest being led away by the error of the lawless you fall from your own steadfastness." --- Green's Literal Translation    The Greek for "lawless" is athesmos, Strong's number 133, which has as its first definition "lawless." 2 Peter 2:7: "and rescued righteous Lot, [who was] being distressed by the conduct in flagrant sexual immorality of the lawless [ones]." Athesmos occurs in the Bible only twice as in the 2 previous 2 Peter verses. Verse 7 involves violating sexual standards, or Biblical laws most likely, of course, those listed or those that would become listed in the Mosaic laws. Therefore "law" and "lawless" logically/probably refer to or include the present day set of laws known as the Mosaic laws, even though they had not been officially recorded when Lot lived. Most translators therefore felt justified in translating athesmos as "lawless" or referring to the "law," logically the MOSAIC LAWS.
HEBREWS 10:16: "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my LAWS into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them." --- NKJV    The Greek for "LAWS" in the above verse is nomos, 3551, which refers primarily to the MOSAIC LAWS.
MATTHEW 23:27: "Woe to you ..... For you are ..... full of ..... ALL UNCLEANNESS." --- NKJV   The Greek for "UNCLEANNESS" is akatharsia, Strong's 167, which is derived from the same Greek word, akathartos, Strong's 169, used in Acts 10:14 to describe the type of uncleanness of the forbidden foods listed in the MOSAIC LAWS.
MATTHEW 23:27,28: "Woe to you ..... 28 ..... you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of ..... LAWLESSNESS." --- NKJV    The Greek for "LAWLESSNESS" is anomia, which means being "destitute of the MOSAIC LAW."
JUDE 1:4: "Some godless people ..... EVEN DENY THAT WE MUST OBEY JESUS ....." --- Contemporary English Version
Law is composed of basically 1) the laws themselves and 2) their corresponding penalties for violating the laws. To support their belief that most OT laws have been abolished, mainstreamers quote verses that often include the words "not under the law" or "free from the law." Some, such as the sacrifice laws and the circumcision law (Hebrews 9:26, 10:10,12,14, Romans 2:29) were specifically singled out by the Apostles as truly done away with, but not many other OT laws.
When mainstreamers quote verses similar to "Christians are no longer under the law," those very concise, abbreviated, shortened verses mean "not under the PENALTY of the law for sins committed primarily BEFORE repentance and baptism," which potentially is death. Christians are also no longer under the  complete law which previously required sacrifices, circumcision, and leadership from the Levitical priesthood.  According to OT laws you should have ALREADY BEEN EXECUTED AND BURIED MANY TIMES for repeatedly working on Saturdays, disrespectfully using the Lord's name, embezzling God's tithes, etc., regardless of whether or not you had later repented of those sins, if Jesus Christ had never appeared on the world scene. Just 2 of many penalty examples are Mark 7:10: "For Moses said, ..... 'He who curses father or mother; let him be put to DEATH," and Numbers 15:35: "Then the Lord said to Moses, 'The man must surely be put to DEATH; ....." referring to a man caught working on the Sabbath. Previously, almost every time an Israeli turned around he was executed, threatened with execution, or had to sacrificially slaughter one of his own valuable livestock if he sinned. After the sacrificial death of Jesus, though, righteous Christians have now been freed and delivered from, and are no longer under the AUTOMATIC death penalty part of the law.
However, 1 JOHN 3:4 (anomia), ROMANS 2:13, ROMANS 3:31, ROMANS 6:1,2, ROMANS 6:15, MATTHEW 5:20, MATTHEW 7:23 (anomia), MATTHEW 13:41,42 (anomia), MATTHEW 24:12 (anomia), and similar verses OVERWHELMINGLY PROVE BEYOND ANY DOUBT WHATSOEVER that the law must still be obeyed, since 1 John 3:4 defines sin as primarily breaking Mosaic law, so the obedience part of the law is still in force. ROMANS 8:2 explains that righteous Christians are "free from the law of sin and death," meaning that they will no longer be punished by death for their sins committed before and possibly after their conversion.
Jesus has paid the price for our past sins, which truly "releases us" from the mandatory death penalty of the law. Concerning sins committed after our repentance and baptism, Jesus is also our "mediator." 1 John 2:1 reveals that when we sin, we can further repent and confess our sins in prayer, and Jesus can then plead our case with God the Father. Some verses state that Christians are now "under grace." The original Greek word for grace basically means a pardon for sins committed ONLY IN THE PAST. Therefore grace IS NOT A PARDON OR LICENSE TO CONTINUE SINNING according to Romans 3:24,25. When a state governor, for example, pardons a convicted murderer and releases him back into society, do you really think the governor will tolerate the newly freed person continuing to kill more people? Of course not!
Christians living under grace are expected to continue obeying Biblical laws. The following four verses, as well as similar verses CLEARLY DISPEL any remaining confusion about whether or not the law still needs to be observed:
Romans 3:31: "Do we then make void the law through faith? GOD FORBID: yea, we establish the law." --- King James Version
Romans 6:1,2: "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 GOD FORBID. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" --- King James Version
Romans 6:15: "What then? shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? GOD FORBID!" --- King James Version
Anomia refers to abandoning the MOSAIC LAWS THAT (excluding basically the Levitical priesthood, sacrifice, and circumcision laws that the Apostles clearly specified as now abolished) ARE LAWS OF BASIC PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL DECENCY (don't eat toxic pork, shellfish, etc., pay the life saving third year food tithe, do not observe man concocted, Old Testament condemned Christmas and Easter with their attached, tremendously insulting, idolatrous traditions [God the Father and Jesus Both do not take sustained insults well], and so on). The ancient, pagan traditions of Christmas, for example, include child sacrifice. Lights decorating Christmas trees originated from candles made from the fat of the bodies of children, often infants, burned alive as a sacrifice to a god. Brightly colored balls hung on Christmas trees originated from the tradition of hanging the decapitated heads of sacrifice victims from trees in sacred groves. They also sometimes used to represent the testes of the sun god Rah. The practice of placing gifts under Christmas trees came originally from putting sacrifices and offerings to pagan gods under Christmas tree like structures. Christmas wreaths in ancient times symbolized a sun god or womens' wombsEvery time you use a decorated Christmas tree to celebrate Christmas you continue to symbolically honor and dignify ancient, sacrificial atrocities as well as insult and disobey your Creator! Not even a "molecule" of evidence exists showing that Jesus was born on December 25 or even in December or January, but there is a massive amount of evidence that pagan gods were once honored and worshipped on about December 25. Two Mosaic laws strictly forbid observing Christmas. Deuteronomy 4:2 prohibits adding to the law (or adding to the way the Lord is worshipped, like Christmas, which is not in the Bible). Deuteronomy 7:26 forbids even bringing into your house an "abomination" such as a Christmas tree. Also, the very name of Easter, incredibly, originally referred to the name of a pagan god. The Christians in Matthew 7:23 that Jesus is planning to destroy had not included many still valid Mosaic laws among the New Testament laws that they did obey.
MATTHEW 7:21-23: "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven ....... 22 Many (the Greek word for "many" is polus POLUS, THE GREAT MAJORITY which in accordance with eight other verses could easily mean not just the majority of Christians, but the vast majority) will say to Me in that day (Judgment Day which will occur after the millennium and after the following second resurrection), 'Lord, Lord (desperately crying out fearing they may be rejected), have we not prophesied (preached) in your name, cast out demons in your name, and done many wonders (maybe purported miraculous cures by some prominent Christians) in Your name?' 23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness (anomia)!"  --- NKJV      Most Christians refuse to believe, in the assumption that the majority must be right, the real definition of anomia translated loosely by often anti-OT leaning translators into the more deceptively general, less specific "lawlessness" or "iniquity."
Some safe haven, first century like churches include the Church of God, a Worldwide Association, which seems to have the most "open door" policy (church service times and the location are often right on the websites of local churches), and the United Church of God, an International Association. The latter has one of the most accessible, extensive Biblical libraries of online, archived literature in the world. There are also some other very good remnant churches of the former Worldwide Church of God with nearly identical doctrines. These two churches combined with several other like minded, sister churches have over an estimated 45,000 members and supporters and well over 600 local congregations around the world. These churches held the most recent fall Feast of Tabernacles at over 80 sites worldwide.
                                                                                 THE TITHING LAWS
MATTHEW 23:23: "........ You SHOULD TITHE, yes, but do not neglect the more important things. --- New Living Translation
"........ You OUGHT TO TITHE but without forgetting about those more important matters." --- Common English Bible
LUKE 11:42: "........ You should be fair and kind to others and still GIVE A TENTH to God." --- Contemporary English Version
"........ You SHOULD TITHE, yes, but do not neglect the more important things." --- New Living Translation
"........ And you should also continue to do those other things--{LIKE GIVING ONE - TENTH}." --- Easy - to - Read Version
Since 3 different tithes (you, the reader, be honest and admit 3 different OT tithes [Deuteronomy 12:17,18,14:22-26,28,29, and 26:12 are not sitting in the Bible just for nothing]) exist, so which tithe did Jesus refer to? It must have been all 3 tithes! Since Jesus did not specifically identify which tithe of the 3 DIFFERENT KINDS OF TITHES contained within the Mosaic laws should be paid, payment of the third year food tithe for the hungry (Deuteronomy 26:12, 14:28-29) plus the regular and festival tithe is obviously still mandatory because the scribes and Pharisees in these verses ROUTINELY OBSERVED ALL THREE KINDS of tithes ! Those scribes and Pharisees could afford to pay all 3 tithes because they were divinely blessed financially for obedience to the tithe laws. We need to observe all 3 tithes to be righteous, too.
Luke 18:12: "........... I pay the tithe on all my gains." --- Weymouth New Testament    Although Jesus criticized the tithing Pharisee for being snobbishly proud in this verse, the fact that the Pharisee paid, to be truly righteous, tithes on all his profits provides additional confirmation of the need to tithe on all sources of income, including wages, trading, investments, etc. as well as farming and ranching operations. The Pharisees generally were not farmers or ranchers, they were teachers, judges, bureaucrats, and scribes copying documents living primarily in Jerusalem where no farms or ranches even existed. Some misinformed people incorrectly claim that tithes should only be paid on agricultural and livestock profits, which is not true, and certainly not logical.
2 Chronicles 31:5: "......... the children of Israel brought in abundantly the firstfruits of grain and wine, oil and honey, and of all the produce of the field; AND they brought in abundantly the TITHE OF EVERYTHING." --- NKJV    Since this verse stated that the tithe of ALL the produce of the field was brought in, the additional words that included "and they brought in ........ the tithe of everything," instead of being merely redundant, most likely meant non-agricultural income. The word "everything" clearly means all income, whether it is from agriculture, carpentry wages, rental income, salaries, etc.
Matthew 25:42-46: "for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 ..... naked and you did not clothe Me ..... 44 ..... 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty ..... or naked .....? 45 ..... 'Assuredly ..... inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment ....." --- NKJV    Eventually there will be no more forgiveness for this offense, letting other Christians go hungry. "The least of these" in verse 45 is referring to fellow church members. Righteous Christians paying the still mandatory third year charity (food) tithe, created mostly to benefit other Christians, probably will not be condemned for failing to provide food, liquids, and clothing to needy Christians.
MATTHEW 5:20: "FOR I SAY TO YOU PEOPLE, YOU WILL NOT ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN UNLESS WHAT YOU DO THAT IS RIGHT EXCELS WHAT THE EXPERTS IN THE LAW OF MOSES AND THE PHARISEES [i. e., a strict sect of the Jewish religion] DO THAT IS RIGHT." --- An Understandable Version  The Scribes and Pharisees Jesus was referring to were deficient in mercy and fairness in their dealings with some people, so we need to be more righteous in that department as well as copycat the observance of many Old Testament laws such as tithing, which the Scribes and Pharisees strictly observed.
EPHESIANS 2:19,20: "...... you are ...... fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles AND PROPHETS ......" --- NKJV    Malachi was a prophet who reminded us of the continuing need to tithe so that we can prosper and avoid real financial curses for failing to tithe.
                                                                            THE DIETARY LAWS
2 CORINTHIANS 6:17: "Come out, then, from among them ........, separate yourselves from them, and DO NOT EVEN TOUCH what is UNCLEAN ........" --- Knox New Testament   Mainstream Christians routinely touch and eat bacon, crabs, etc. The above New Testament verse provides additional evidence the dietary laws are still valid, which would imply that other Mosaic laws are still valid, too. The original Greek word for "touch" is haptomai, defined by Thayer as "....... to fasten to ....... adhere to, cling to, ....... to touch ......." In accordance with other commentators Thayer further defines haptomai as "....... have no intercourse with the Gentiles, no fellowship in their heathenish practices ....... the things not to be touched appear to be both women (unbelievers) and certain kinds of food (forbidden food) ....... " The original Greek word for "unclean" in the above verse is akathartos, which in accordance with Thayer is defined as "....... that which must be abstained from according to the LEVITICAL law, lest impurity be contracted ......." which of course would include food.
How in the world can mainstream "Christians" now declare "clean" and edible what will STILL be unclean over 1,000 years from now (after the millennium, Isaiah 66:17) and was so unclean long ago about 1,000 years BEFORE the codification of the Mosaic laws that EVEN NOAH HIMSELF recognized some animals as clearly forbidden to eat (Genesis 7:2,8, 8:20), according to specific Biblical verses?
GENESIS 7:1,2,8, 8:20: "Noah, 'Come into the ark ..... 2 ..... take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean ..... 8 Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean ....." 8:20: "Then Noah built an altar ..... and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings ....." --- NKJV    Our Creator considered certain animals as forbidden to eat long before Moses was even born, and long before the Mosaic laws were formally established. The obvious implication is that the forbidden foods always were and always will be forbidden to eat. Apparently more clean animals were brought into the ark than unclean ones to provide edible food for Noah and his family during the year long voyage.
The following very specific verses in Isaiah also instantly end support for the false teaching that the dietary laws are abolished:
ISAIAH 66:17,22: "These people ......... eat the meat of PIGS and RATS (people in some countries such as Malawi even today eat cooked mice) and OTHER HATEFUL THINGS (forbidden aquatic creatures or "creeping things").But they will all be destroyed together,' says the Lord ......... 22 I will make NEW HEAVENS and the NEW EARTH which will last forever ........." --- New Century Version  Isaiah 65:17,25 and 66:22 show that these two chapters, where the words "swine's flesh" and "Sabbath" appear, refer to a FUTURE age that has not yet arrived, a time when the earth will be literally reshaped into a new earth, an age when Jesus Christ will have returned a second time in great glory. In this future new age even some animals will be changed since 65:25 reveals that lions and wolves will peacefully eat grass like sheep, instead of meat. In that future age the Mosaic dietary laws will obviously be mercilessly enforced.
EPHESIANS 2:19,20: "...... the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles AND PROPHETS ......" --- NKJV   Isaiah, a prophet, is a basic part of the foundation of the church. A little common sense, reinforced by other Scriptures, tells us that his warning about the consequences of ignoring the food laws in the future also applies to the present age.
REVELATION 18:2: "The angel shouted, 'Fallen! Powerful Babylon has fallen and is now the home of demons. It is the den of ........ all UNCLEAN  BIRDS ....." --- Contemporary English Version  This verse provides additional proof that some birds are still classified as "UNCLEAN," or still forbidden to eat, in New Testament times shortly before the second return of Jesus Christ. This verse helps CONFIRM that the forbidden foods NEVER WERE "CLEANSED" and are therefore still forbidden to ingest!
ACTS 10:14: "But Peter said, 'Not so, Lord! For I have NEVER eaten anything common or unclean." --- NKJ    Peter's statement is evidence that all the Apostles strictly obeyed the dietary laws. Peter was a pre-eminent Apostle who preached on Pentecost, helped "open the door" to the Gentiles, and was very instrumental in spreading the gospel.
MARK 5:2-17. Read the second paragraph near the top of the EDIBLE PORK, REALLY? page to see that Jesus supported the dietary laws by allowing an extremely large amount of forbidden pork to be very wastefully destroyed.
ROMANS 14:14,20, MARK 7:18,19, ACTS 10:10-17, 1 TIMOTHY 4:3-5, 1 CORINTHIANS 10:25,27, COLOSSIANS 2:16 are 17 verses that most Christians misinterpret as supposedly supporting the abolition of the Mosaic dietary laws. For a correct understanding of those Scriptures please click FORBIDDEN FOOD and read the lower one third of that page.
                                                             THE FESTIVALS
There are seven festivals that help reveal God's overall plan of salvation. Seven in the Bible often represents completion or perfection. Leviticus 23:2 reveals that these are God's festivals, not the Jews' festivals, although many Jews faithfully observe them. To correctly observe these annual holy days, assuming you are physically able to, you need to observe them when and where a righteous church observes them, especially since financial offerings are mandatory at three of them. Deuteronomy 16:16,17: "All your males must show themselves before the Lord your God three times a year in the place He chooses, at the Special Supper of Bread Without Yeast, the Special Supper of the First Fruits of the Land, and the Special Supper of Tents. They must not show themselves before the Lord with nothing in their hands. 17 Every man should give as he is able ......" --- New Life Version       Quite amazingly, the last four festivals below seem to celebrate, in chronological order, MAJOR EVENTS (the return of Jesus, the temporary removal of Satan, the Christian millennium [Revelation 20], then the second, main resurrection offering salvation to those who were not in the first resurrection) IN GOD'S PLAN OF SALVATION that have not yet occurred. Colossians 2:16,17: "....... regarding a festival ...... or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come ......" The festival dates given below are for 2013, from the Hebrew calendar.
PASSOVER was originally commanded in Exodus 12:2-14 and Leviticus 23:5. Jesus now represents the Passover lamb according to 1 Peter 2:24 and 1 Corinthians 5:7. Jesus Christ has instituted the New Testament symbols of bread and wine to represent His broken body and shed blood during this still binding festival.
THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD is confirmed in the NT by two verses. Corinthians 5:8: "So then we should be keeping the feast ........" --- Analytical Literal Translation  This verse refers to the 7 day Feast of Unleavened Bread. This is not just a suggestion or metaphor by Paul, who was never Jewish, but from the Israeli tribe of Benjamin, a converted Christian. This is an actual reminder by Paul to literally continue faithfully observing the Levitical week long eating of unleavened bread to remind us to not be excessively proud, arrogant, or otherwise unrighteous. Leaven when added to bread "puffs up" and makes it rise when baked. Eating flat, unleavened bread is an annual, gentle reminder (which can be tasty with good recipes) to be more humble, less unreasonably proud, less egotistically "puffed up," and therefore more righteous. Acts 20:6: "But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread and in five days ......" --- NKJV     This is one more verse that shows that Paul himself even well after the death of Jesus continued to obediently keep the 7 day Festival of Unleavened Bread. Exodus 12:15,19: "...... whoever shall eat leaven, that soul shall be utterly destroyed from Israel, from the first day until the seventh day. ...... 19 ...... whosoever shall eat anything leavened, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, both among the occupiers of the land and the original inhabitants." --- Complete Apostle's Bible
PENTECOST, first commanded in Exodus 34:22 and Leviticus 23:15,16, celebrates the day that the New Testament Church began with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Acts 2:1-15.
THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS, called Rosh Hashana by the Jews, is scheduled for September 5. This festival, according to Leviticus 23:24,25 celebrates the approaching day that Jesus will return to the earth to establish the Kingdom of God, Revelation 11:15.
THE DAY OF ATONEMENT occurs on September 14. This holy, solemn day was commanded long ago in Leviticus 23:26-32. Acts 27:9: "...... sailing was now dangerous because the FAST was already over, Paul advised them." --- NKJV     This verse is further evidence that the Apostles continued to obey OT laws such as the 24 hour foodless and waterless fasting Day of Atonement, called Yom Kippur by the Jews, a day that all Christians today still need to keep. This holy day celebrates in advance the day when Satan will be bound for one thousand years after Jesus has returned, immediately before the Christian millennium, Revelation 20:1-3. Leviticus 23:29: "For any person who is not afflicted in soul on that same day shall be cut off from his people." --- NKJV   The Hebrew for "afflicted" is Strong's 6031, referring to fasting (not eating food nor drinking liquids), Isaiah 58:3,5, Ezra 8:21, Esther 4:16. Leviticus 23:29: "Suppose you do eat food on that day. Then you will be cut off from your people."  --- New International Reader's Version      Leviticus 23:30: "I will kill those who do any work on that day." --- God's Word Translation
THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES, mentioned in Leviticus 23:34-42, is to be observed on September 19-25. Acts 18:21: "..... 'I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem;" --- NKJV   Since this was in the fall, it must have referred to the Feast of Tabernacles, another Mosaic festival the first century Christians diligently observed. They did not consider it abolished. Note Paul's words of urgency: "I must by all means." We need to attend this yearly feast, too, that celebrates in advance the coming 1,000 year millennium (mentioned 6 times in Revelation 20), ruled in person by Jesus and His resurrected saints on the earth. Zechariah 14:16-19 warns that nations that refuse to attend this feast in the future will be punished with plagues.
THE LAST GREAT DAY, or Eighth Day Festival, September 26, celebrating in advance the second resurrection (Ezekiel 37:14, Matthew 12:41,42, Revelation 20:5 [verse 4 is the first resurrection]), occurs immediately after the last day of the 7 day Feast of Tabernacles according to Leviticus 23:36
Ephesians 2:19,20: "...... the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets ......" --- NKJV    Moses and Zechariah were some of the prophets who helped build the Christian Church.
                                                                       THE SATURDAY SABBATH
LUKE 4:16: "..... as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read."
GENESIS 2:2,3: "..... God ..... rested on the seventh day from all His work ..... 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctioned it ....." --- NKJV   The Saturday Sabbath was created more than a thousand years before Moses was ever even born, so the Sabbath PREDATES the Mosaic laws, making any imagined, wholesale "abolition" of the Mosaic laws irrelevant. Both God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, of course rested on that Saturday because They are in agreement about such things. Since Jesus instructed His disciples to do as He did, which would also apply to all Christians, Saturday rest is still in force for everyone. 1 JOHN 2:6: "He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked." --- NKJV   LUKE 6:40: "A pupil is not superior to his teacher, but everyone [when he is] completely trained (readjusted, restored, set to rights, and perfected) will be like his teacher." --- The Amplified Bible    HEBREWS 13:8: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." --- Easy-To-Read Version   DEUTERONOMY 4:2: "You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it ....." DEUTERONOMY 12:32: "Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it." --- NKJV   Mainstream Christians have flagrantly violated the last two verses by taking away the Saturday Sabbath and, usurping divine authority, replacing it with first day of the week pagan Sunday rest and worship.
Further evidence that mandatory obedience to the Sabbath PREDATES the formal establishment of the law at Mount Sinai is found in Exodus 16:23-30. Israel was reminded to keep the Sabbath even before they came to Mount Sinai, when God gave them manna to eat. Exodus 16:25,27,28: "..... Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. 27 ..... some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none. 28 And the Lord said to Moses, 'How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?"
MATTHEW 24:20: "And pray that your flight may not be in winter or ON THE SABBATH day" shows convincingly that we need to still avoid work on every Saturday. Be really honest, doesn't that verse basically mean "You certainly must not work on Saturdays (excluding rare emergencies, food preparation, church attendance, etc.)?" Yes, that verse definitely means that. Isn't "flight" work and obviously stressful activity that is the opposite of rest? The Sabbath, which always refers to Saturday in the Bible, has not been abolished nor temporarily suspended because this verse refers to the future, the time of "Armageddon," that has not occurred yet. Why would Jesus refer to the Sabbath so emphatically, that we are commanded to pray about it, if the Sabbath was not still extremely important?
HEBREWS 4:9: "So that there is still a SABBATH - KEEPING for the people of God." --- Bible in Basic English  "A Sabbath - keeping" strongly implies a continued physical keeping of the weekly Sabbath that includes a future millennial rest for Christians. For a discussion showing that the above verse provides additional confirmation that the Mosaic law to rest on each Saturday is very much still in force go to sabbath-rest. After you have read that go to storyofrest. I think most unbiased, unprejudiced, nonreligious people would quickly agree that Jesus' admonishment to pray that your flight not be on the Sabbath is basically the same as the statement "Don't you DARE do any work on Saturdays" which confirms that the Mosaic Saturday rest law is very much still valid!! Matthew 24:20 therefore also implies that many other Mosaic laws are still valid. Not one but two verses in Exodus 31, verses 14 and 15 warn that death was and very much still is even today the potential penalty for deliberately working on Saturdays according to Matthew 7:21-23 and 13:41-42. The painful death by stoning of someone caught working on a Saturday is recorded in Numbers 15:32-36, which is another reminder to this very day of the potential consequences of breaking only one of the laws of Moses. Philippians 2:12: "........ work out your own salvation with fear and trembling," 1 Peter 4:18: "And if the righteous scarcely be saved ........" are not just idle words.
EPHESIANS 2:19,20: "...... the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles AND PROPHETS ......" --- NKJV    The Saturday Sabbath teachings of the prophets Isaiah and Moses are part of the foundational doctrines of Christianity. Other foundational building blocks of the Christian church include Jeremiah and Nehemiah who gave us even more specific instructions about how to observe the Sabbath correctly.
ISAIAH 66:22,23: "I will make new heavens and the new earth which will last forever ....... 23 ALL PEOPLE will come to worship Me every SABBATH .......,' says the Lord." --- New Century Version   VERSE 23 MEANS THAT IN THE DISTANT FUTURE ALL PEOPLE AROUND THE GLOBE WILL BE FORCED TO ATTEND CHURCH SERVICES ON SATURDAYS, NOT SUNDAYS.
MARK 2:27: "....... The SABBATH was made for man ......." --- NKJV
ISAIAH 56:6,7: "....... Everyone who keeps from defiling the SABBATH ....... 7 ....... I will ....... make them joyful in MY HOUSE of prayer ........ For MY HOUSE shall be called a house of prayer for ALL NATIONS." --- NKJV    The words "my house" above refer to Christianity. THIS IS ANOTHER PROPHECY THAT SATURDAY REST AND WORSHIP WILL BE WORLDWIDE IN EVERY NATION IN THE DISTANT FUTURE.
Numerous New Testament verses command us to obey the "commandments," referring to the Ten Commandments. Since the commandments contain the fourth commandment requiring rest on Saturdays, the "commandments" are additional evidence that the Sabbath law must still be in force. Unlike the circumcision, Levitical priesthood, and sacrifice laws, the Sabbath law never was specifically singled out by any apostle as abolished. Verses which basically say "keep the commandments" include the following: Matthew 19:17, John 14:15, 14:21, 15:10, 1 Corinthians 7:19, 1 John 2:3,4, 3:22,24, 5:2,3, Revelation 12:17 and 14:12.
Some important additional laws to observe the Sabbath correctly include 1) not buying or selling anything for a profit during Sabbath hours, which are from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset according to NEHEMIAH 10:31: "if the peoples of the land brought wares or any grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we would not buy it from them on the Sabbath ....." 13:15-17: "..... the Sabbath day. And I warned them about the day on which they were selling provisions. 16 Men ..... brought in fish and all kinds of goods, and sold them on the Sabbath ..... 17 ..... What evil thing is this that you do, by which you profane the Sabbath day?" --- NKJV   Nehemiah's verses also imply that we should not buy any thing at all on the Sabbath. Eating at restaurants on Saturdays is probably sinful since a) you are permitting or requiring waiters/waitresses to "carry a burden" transporting your normally heavy tray of food usually containing food for others, b) paying for meals is contributing to a restaurant's selling profits on the Sabbath, and c) merely delivering even a light meal to a table is additional (and therefore prohibited work for the waiter/waitress, the "stranger," according to EXODUS 20:8). Cafeteria style dining, especially in a very busy one where your presence would make little to no difference in the amount of work performed by the establishment's employees, possibly may not be sinful if payment for a meal is made before or after Sabbath hours and since waiter/waitresses usually are not directly involved in work related meal delivery to your table. If someone else, and not you, pays for a meal on the Sabbath, then that other person, and not you, will be guilty of buying. Also, you need to 2) stay home during the hours of holy rest except for travel to church services and possibly to related activities such as church picnics, according to EXODUS 16:29: "..... this day as the sabbath ..... ye shall sit each of you in your houses; let no one go forth from his place on the seventh day." --- Brenton English Septuagint Translation   The Septuagint is the most accurate translation available for the first 5 books of the Old Testament. Travel to weddings, funerals, sporting events, etc. is a "no-no." MATTHEW 24:20 is another reminder that Sabbath travel should definitely be limited. Ultra-Orthodox Jews strictly limit travel to the point that one should not even attend Sabbath services if he cannot walk from his house to them. That is over doing it, though, since Sabbath services are commanded. JEREMIAH 17:21-24 tells us to 3) avoid carrying a burden, or heavy object during the hours of divine rest. Finally, EXODUS 16:23, MARK 15:42 and LUKE 23:54 remind us that 4) Friday is the "Preparation Day" to buy needed things, do last minute chores, do any heavy cooking, make sure the car has enough fuel to go to church and back so you won't need to buy some during the restful Sabbath hours, etc., to get ready for Saturday rest and church services, a type of weekly "date" with your Creator.
1 CORINTHIANS 9:27: "But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified."  --- New King James Version   Paul admits he himself could fail to be saved! The Greek word for "disqualified" is adokimos, Strong's 96, defined as unapproved, rejected, worthless, castaway, and reprobate.  2 Corinthians 13:5: "..... Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?---unless indeed you are disqualified." --- NKJV  The very same Greek word adokimos also appears in 2 Corinthians 13:5 as the original Greek word for "disqualified," very strongly implying that Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:27 was admitting that he could lose his salvation by no longer having "Jesus in him" if his sins were serious and prolonged enough to "disqualify" him. Titus 1:16: "They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work." --- NKJV  Adokimos in verse 16 again appears in the Greek for the word "disqualified." Therefore deliberate, sustained failure to obey New as well as Old Testament laws can still cost Christians their salvation.
GALATIANS 3:13: "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us, (for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.)"  --- NKJV     To  understand this verse the context of it must be recognized by reading the preceding Galatians 3:10-12: "For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.' 11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for 'the just shall live by faith.' 12 Yet the law is not of faith, but the man who does them shall live by them." These verses refer to those who are trying to be saved only through their own independent law keeping efforts, without faith and without the atoning sacrifice of Jesus' death. Verse 13 does not say that Christ redeemed us from the law, but rather from the curse (which can be death for disobedience) of the law. "Us" is referring to converted, law obeying Christians. This verse also does not state or even imply that there is no need to continue observing the law, or that those who do so will be cursed. You also cannot say that the law itself is now a curse after Paul himself in Romans 7:12 said that the "law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good." He also said that it is the doers of the law, not the hearers, who are justified in Romans 2:13. For additional study please visit
GALATIANS 5:4: "You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace." --- NKJV     Many people mistakenly interpret this verse as 1) evidence law keeping is no longer required for salvation. Taken even more literally, concentrating only on the words in that verse, verse 4, though, can just as easily be interpreted to mean 2) that people who want to rely 100% on law keeping, and law keeping only, for justification to be saved, and not also on the grace and atoning sacrifice of Jesus at all, have truly separated themselves from Jesus, making His sacrificial death meaningless. Salvation involves grace with a certain amount of righteous law keeping. The Bible says that repeatedly. The second, much more reasonable interpretation would also be consistent with the rest of the New Testament which contains over 90 verses telling us to obey many OT laws. To interpret this verse as an excuse to abandon law keeping also does not address the fact that 1) eating some of the forbidden foods will still kill you (if God has released us from the food laws, why has He not made them more harmless?), 2) Isaiah's 66:17 verse revealing that people who eat the forbidden foods in the future will be killed by the Lord for that offense, 3) Zechariah 14:16-19's prediction that physical attendance in the future at the Feast of Tabernacles, another Mosaic law, will be compulsory, and 4) that in the distant future mandatory Saturday Sabbath rest and worship will be observed by every person on the earth (Isaiah 56:6,7, 66:22,23), again involving another Mosaic law. If those laws will be in force in the future, it is only common sense and logical that they, as well as some other Mosaic laws, are still valid today. For further study click
1 JOHN 3:4: "Every one that practises sin practises also lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness." --- John Nelson Darby Translation   The Greek word for lawlessness in this verse is anomia. The definition of the adjective (anomos, 459) and adverb (anomos, 460) of anomia according to Strong's Concordance and some other references, is similar to or the same as breaking many "Jewish laws." 2 THESSALONIANS 2:7-8: "For the mystery of anomia already is working, only he holding back now, until it comes out of the midst; 8 and then the anomos one will be revealed, whom the Lord will CONSUME ........." ROMANS 6:19: "For as you yielded your members as slaves to uncleanness and to anomia to anomia, so now yield your members as slaves to righteousness ........," in accordance with the Greek.
Anomia literally means no torah. "A" means "no" or "without" and nomia, derived from nomos means "law," or primarily the laws within the first five books of the Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.  Summarizing the literal translation again of Matthew 7:23, which is addressed to Christians, "........ DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO VIOLATE THE MOSAIC LAWS IN IGNORANCE!"
The original Greek word for "practice" in MATTHEW 7:23's "..... you who practice lawlessness" in many translations is ergazomai, Strong's number 2038. The definition of ergazomai seems to imply that anomia is not a sin that occurs by accident, or occurs unintentionally as through extreme temptation. Strong's, Thayer's, and the definitions of other experts indicate that anomia is deliberate, sustained, and occurs regularly, and the English translation "practice" implies that anomia does not occur rarely. These definitions are consistent with the idea that Old Testament law observance has been deliberately abandoned.
Romans 7:4: "..... you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ ....." --- NKJV      Paul said that you have become dead to the law. He did not say that the law is dead. Baptized Christians now with the Holy Spirit are "dead to" or "immune" from the penalty of the law if they break it. The only way the penalty of the law has been suspended for you individually is if you are obeying (or reasonably trying to obey) divine laws. When righteous Christians occasionally sin through carelessness, accident, etc., upon further repentance and admission of their sins in prayer, their sins can be forgiven, and they do not immediately have to pay the former penalty of the law, which could even be death sometimes. .
ACTS 5:1-11: Still think Matthew 7:23's future condemnation to death of baptized Christians for failing to obey the "law" will never really happen? Consider the speed and mercilessness of what happened to the following couple. ANANIAS and SAPPHIRA who most likely were baptized, have given us a "taste" of what can happen. The execution of this couple occurred almost immediately, within seconds of a commandment transgression, which showed no mercy for committing only one single offense, lying. Ananias and Sapphira are seldom and usually NEVER discussed in most, almost mindless "Just accept Jesus into your heart and you will be saved" preaching popular churches. Such Matthew 7:23 ignoring churches also, of course, conveniently omit the last, disobedience part of
                                           JOHN 3:36:
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever DISOBEYS the Son will never have life," --- Today's English Version
"........ those who don't believe AND OBEY Him shall never see heaven ........" --- Living Bible
"........ he who does not OBEY the Son shall not see life ........" --- Revised Standard Version
"........ but he who DISOBEYS the Son shall not see that life ........" --- New English Bible
"........ but he who does not OBEY the Son will not see life ........" --- New American Standard
"........ whoever does not OBEY the Son shall not see life ........" --- English Standard Version
"........ whoever DISOBEYS the Son will not have life ........" --- Good News Translation
"........ those who do not OBEY the Son will never have life ........" --- New Century Version
Some English translations that include even the King James Version, dilute "disobeys" down to "does not believe," "believeth not," or similar words. The original Greek, though, specifically uses the word APEITHEO, 544, which basically means to refuse belief AND OBEDIENCE!
                                                          ROMANS 3:31:
Living Bible: "Well then, if we are saved by faith, does this mean that we no longer need to OBEY God's law (nomos-Mosaic laws, 3551)? JUST THE OPPOSITE! In fact, only when we trust Jesus can we truly OBEY Him."
Today's English Version: "Does this mean that we do away with the law (nomos-Mosaic laws, 3551) by this faith? No, not at all; instead we UPHOLD the law."
Revised Standard Version: "Do we then overthrow the law (nomos-Mosic laws, 3551) by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we UPHOLD the law."
Jonathan Mitchell New Testament: "Then are we habitually rendering inactive and useless (idling - down and rendering unemployed) law (nomos-Mosaic laws, 3551) [Torah] through the Faith? Certainly not (May it not come to be)! But rather, we are constantly establishing law (setting Torah in a fixed place and MAKING IT STAND)."
God's Word Translation: "Are we abolishing Moses' Teachings by this faith? THAT'S UNTHINKABLE! Rather, we are SUPPORTING Moses' teachings."
1) The ORIGINAL GREEK SAYS that two (2) Sabbaths occurred between the burial and resurrection of Jesus, which when combined with Jesus' own words that He would be in the tomb exactly 3 days and 3 nights, no more, and no less, plus 11 other verses specifying that Jesus would rise on the THIRD day, demands that He was resurrected on a Saturday before sunset, instantly collapsing any Biblical support for Sunday rest observance.
2) 2 Corinthians 3:11: "For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious." It was the Old Covenant that was passing away, NOT the separate, holy laws of God. The New Covenant, with its new promise of the Holy Spirit, complete forgiveness of sins through the sacrifice of Jesus, and eventually immortality (these 3 things were never available in the Old Covenant: only physical protection and physical blessings for obedience) has now replaced the Old Covenant.
3) Acts 15:19,20,28,29: "Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God, 20 but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood. ....... 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality ......." When the book of Acts was written the dominant Greek and Roman cultures at that time were centered around idol worship and even had many local pagan temples. Christian Gentiles assembled, literally with the sizable Jewish community, in the synagogues each Saturday. Bibles were extremely expensive at the time since Scrolls were hand written, and very few people had them except the very rich. Synagogue services were the only opportunity most Gentile Christians had to hear the Scriptures and learn Christianity since new Christian congregations had not yet been established in many areas. The Jews welcomed the new people, but they needed to be assured that the Gentiles had genuinely forsaken any form of idolatry. The apostles therefore required the Gentile believers, to get along with the Jews, to accept certain rules (generally man made rules or customs that were not necessarily always required for salvation) showing that they had rejected idolatrous practices: 1) they should not become involved in any ritual involving animal strangulation, 2) they should not participate in any ceremony misusing blood in sacrifices, 3) they should not become involved in any meal associated with idol worship, and 4) they should completely avoid any contact or dealings with temple prostitutes. Verse 21: "For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath." This last verse shows that the apostles were motivated to help make the Jews accept new Christian converts into the synagogues to regularly hear and learn what Moses was recorded to have said. If Acts 15:20,29 is a complete, exhaustive list of laws for Christians to obey, Gentile believers can now murder, cheat, lie, remove property landmarks, abuse the name of the Lord, work on the Sabbath, consult wizards, eat trichinosis infected pork and other toxic, scavenger meat, forget about tithing which often saves the hungry from starving to death, covet, divorce for frivolous reasons and marry someone else, look at women adulterously, etc. which of course is a ridiculous conclusion. Acts 15:20,29 therefore does not even remotely begin to prove that the Mosaic laws have been nullified. For a better understanding of these verses in Acts 15 go to then scroll down to principle 5.
4) Galatians 3:24,25: "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster." In all probability the particular "law" referred to here is the same law discussed in nearby Galatians 3:19, which were the temporary laws involving sacrifices and offerings that ended after the death of Jesus. Hebrews 9:10 is additional evidence that the laws that were added then abolished were only the sacrifice and offerings laws, not other laws such as the Ten Commandments, tithing, dietary, festival, and others. The Greek word for "schoolmaster" is paidagogos, 3807. This special word is used in the NT only 3 times, and according to Strong it basically means "guardian" or "disciplinarian," definitely NOT "teacher" or "instructor," which is a distinct and huge difference. Verse 25 therefore does not say that we are no longer under a teacher of the law or no longer under what the law says or teaches, but rather that we are no longer under the penalty, punishment, or disciplinary part (potentially death for disobedience) of the OT offerings and sacrifice laws. Disciplinarians chastise, penalize, and punish people for breaking rules, like the sacrifices in the past punished people for sinning. As Romans 8:2 says, we (law obeying Christians) are no longer under the law of sin and death (the punishment part of the law), or no longer under the disciplining, chastizing "schoolmaster" part of the law, the penalty part.
5) "The law of Christ:", the online encyclopedia, basically defines this phrase as one whose meaning is not certain. The phrase is found in Galatians 6:2 translated mostly as "the law of Christ." "The law of Christ" is also found in some translations of 1 Corinthians 9:21. Most other translations render 1 Corinthians 9:21 differently, such as "under the law to Christ," "subject to law to Christ," "legally Christ's," "legitimately subject to Christ," "lawfully subject to Christ," "within law to Christ," subject to the law to Christ," "subject to the Messiah's law," and "with law to Christ," etc. Galatians 6:2: "Bear the burdens of one another and thus fulfill the torah of the Messiah." --- exeGeses Companion Bible   The Greek for "torah" is nomos, Strong's 3551, which generally refers to the Mosaic laws. Everything that Jesus taught would logically be the "law of Christ." Mainstreamers, however, incorrectly believe that "the law of Christ" exempts Christians from obeying many Mosaic laws. When asked to point out a verse in which Jesus indicated the Mosaic laws no longer need to be observed, they cannot find such a verse.
6) Romans 2:14: "For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves." --- NKJV    Anti-Old Testament leaning translators have again seized the opportunity to slant the translation of the last part of this verse their way. In the Greek there is no "to" or "a" in the last part of verse 14. To and a are artificially added words from most translators. The Greek is simply 3 words: ARE LAW THEMSELVES (eisi Strong's 1526, nomos 3551, heautou 1438). Heautou can also easily be translated as "itself," "alone" or "himself." In Romans 2:12-15 the Greek for law is always nomos, 3551 which throughout the Bible overwhelmingly refers to the OT laws. Verse 14: "..... are Old Testament laws themselves" is a more reasonable, more literal, much less doubt filled translation that remains within the general meaning of these verses. Some pygmies in Burma, for example, are gentiles who quite probably, instinctively consider it wrong to rape, to convict a father for a crime committed by his son, to remove property landmarks, etc. All of those evil actions are prohibited by specific Mosaic laws. So in a way, those pygmies already ARE LAW THEMSELVES, Old Testament style. Those pygmies are following their own conscience and using it as a guide. The general meaning of Romans 2:13-15 is simply that the OT laws are very good and must be obeyed for justification before God according to verse 13. Nothing in the above verses, according to the literal Greek, refers beyond reasonable doubt to a type of new set of laws separate from OT law. Even in the highly unlikely event new laws are involved, they are so vague that they cannot even be identified. Verses saying basically that God will write His laws on your heart refer to being much more firmly convinced, much more fervently persuaded that His OT laws plus NT laws (magnified OT laws) are the real laws that must be obeyed. Romans 2:14-15 shows that some gentile Christians in Paul's day had a willing and obedient attitude to obey the Law even without a complete and proper knowledge of the Law, to the embarrassment of disobedient Israelites who knew the Law.
Galatians 5:18 is worth discussing further. "But IF you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." (Not under the immediate penalty of the law if you break it.) The opposite would mean that if you are not led by the Holy Spirit (or don't even have it), you are under the law (under the penalty of the law)! Are you going to tell me that righteous Christians led by the Holy Spirit need not obey the law when everyone else, including the worst sinner, must since they are "under the law" according to Galatians 5:18? (Under the penalty of the law if they break it.) Doesn't that verse "spell out" the fact that many of the Mosaic laws never were really abolished since non-Christians are strongly implied as still "under the law?" That verse, turned around, says that you are under the law (it's penalties) if you are not led by the Holy Spirit (obtained in the first place only by obeying the law [Acts 2:38, 5:32]).

ROMANS 6:16: "...... if we OBEY Christ, we ...... enjoy His righteousness. None enjoy this blessedness, but those who ...... OBEY Christ." --- People's New Testament
ISAIAH 28:12,13: "....... Yet they would not hear. 13 But the word of the Lord was to them '....... Here a little, there a little,' That they might go and fall backward, and be broken and snared and caught." --- NKJV    These verses show that one must accept all the verses in the Bible, not just isolated verses "here and there," forgetting about what the rest of the Bible says, to avoid becoming "snared."
